Heritage: 100 Years of Precision Application from Wuppertal

Walther Spritz- und Lackiersysteme GmbH was founded on December 15, 1923, by Richard Curt Walther in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel, Germany, a city in the Bergisches Land region with a long tradition of precision metalworking and industrial manufacturing. Six years later, in 1929, Walther introduced the "Luftikus" spray gun, a design that fundamentally changed vehicle painting across Europe and established the company as an engineering leader rather than just a product manufacturer.

From that foundation, the milestones came at a steady pace. In the 1940s, Walther was among the first companies in the industry to recognize and act on the health hazards of spray mist, leading to the development of extraction systems, ventilation systems, and combined spray and drying booths at a time when worker health wasn't yet a regulatory requirement. In the 1950s, as automotive mass production accelerated across Europe, Walther built the first automatic spray guns. In the 1960s, the company introduced airless spray painting, launched the first paint spray robot, opened a second manufacturing facility in the Siegerland region, and established the "Walther Pilot" brand name that has carried ever since.

In 2002, J. Wagner GmbH acquired Walther, bringing it into the Wagner Group portfolio alongside Titan Tool, C.A. Technologies, and Wagner's own industrial coating systems division. Walther has operated as an independent brand within that structure, engineering, assembling, and manufacturing from its original Wuppertal-Vohwinkel headquarters while gaining the global distribution reach of one of the world's largest coating equipment organizations. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in December 2023 and received a Surface Technology Award in 2022 for an automatic precision atomizer.
