Wagner Sprint X & Sprint XE Discontinued: Specs, Parts Support, and the SPRINT 2 Upgrade Path
Wagner has discontinued the Sprint X and Sprint XE manual powder systems in favor of the new SPRINT 2. Here are the original specs, what parts CET still supports, and how the upgrade maps model-for-model.
The Wagner Sprint X and Sprint XE Airfluid manual powder coating systems have been discontinued and replaced by the Wagner SPRINT 2. If you run a Sprint X or XE today, nothing stops working — CET continues to stock spare parts and all documentation remains in our library — but new systems, and the newest application features, are SPRINT 2 only.
What the Sprint X and XE Were
Both systems paired the PEM-X1 manual corona gun with the EPG-SPRINT X universal control unit (DOC 2329371) — a 0–100 kV controller that drove both Corona and Tribo guns, with Corona current adjustable from 0–120 µA and Tribo metering to 5 µA. The XE (DOC 2354920, version 05/2017) was the refined package: an 88-page operating manual covers the trolley, control unit, and gun as a certified system for potentially explosive areas. Operators knew the XE for its four one-touch recipe buttons — Surface Parts, Second Coating, Profiles, and the Double Click recipe triggered from the gun itself. Wagner also offered kits like the Sprint X CT 3L, a two-case Corona + Tribo combination for two-coat applications.

CET hosts the complete documentation: the Sprint XE operating manual, the EPG-SPRINT X controller manual, a quick-reference controller settings guide, the Sprint error code reference for troubleshooting E01-and-up warnings, and the Sprint X CT 3L kit brochure. Wear parts — electrode holders, nozzle inserts, injector parts, hoses — remain available; call or text 586-210-0555 with your part numbers.
What Carries Over to the SPRINT 2 — and What Doesn't
The good news: the PEM-X1 gun is the same X1-platform gun used on the SPRINT 2, so nozzles, electrode holders, extensions, and gun wear parts carry over. The EPG controller and the old injector do not — the SPRINT 2 moves to the WACON Sprint 2 controller family and the tool-free Quick-Link injector, which is the heart of its faster color changes.
Model-for-Model Upgrade Map
A Sprint X or XE box-feed user maps to the SPRINT 2 B (2466208); hopper users map to the SPRINT 2 H (2466209). Both keep the familiar recipe workflow on the WACON Sprint 2 XE controller — 50 recipes, four direct-select — and add Air Flow Control and the Digital Surface Optimizer. Shops that want powder-consumption tracking and process documentation should step up to the SPRINT 2 Expert tiers (2473753 box / 2473767 hopper) with the 7-inch touchscreen, WAGNER Wizard, and integrated powder scale. Lab and sample work that used cup setups maps to the SPRINT 2 CG case set (2467115). Full details, pricing, and store links are on the SPRINT 2 product page.
